Early in the 20th century, missionaries started to bring medicine to Africa along with their message. Word spread that their powerful medicine was preventing devastating diseases that had ravaged and killed many people in their communities.

When word  got out that the medicine would be given, people walked for days and lined up for miles. The reusable needles used for the injections were thick and got blunted with use. The powerful medicine was delivered with an intense pain that was associated with the amazing value of disease prevention.

When the thin, disposable, almost painless needles were introduced, the lines stopped forming. People were suspicious. They believed that powerful medicine required a powerful hurt.

Pain free health was “Too good to be true.”

They turned down the painless path and the hard reality of disease returned.

Eventually those who were willing to have faith convinced others that pain free health was possible.

Polio, a crippling disease that spread like wildfire,  has all but disappeared. You and I only had o swallow some sweetened medicine to be protected for a lifetime. Remember?

We are taught that you have to work long and hard for our money. No pain, no gain.

How are you adapting to the new reality?

Money has always been an important medium of exchange, but it use to be easier to get it and it took less of it to get what you wanted.

The other woodcutters didn’t work such long hours. Instead, they spent some of their time maintaining their tools, sharpening their axes, and working on other equipment that increased their productivity.

When they invited the old woodcutter to take a moment to  sharpen his axe, he told them, “I don’t have time. I have to work hard to make a living and pay my bills.” And yet — trying to cut trees without sharpening his axe  guaranteed that he wouldn’t reach his goals.

What’s this got to do with Life Coaching with Kristin? A lot, actually. First, the old woodcutter had self-sabotaging beliefs. Had he taken the time to examine them he would have seen how his mindset was affecting his results.

He would have seen that his mind needed sharpening, just like his axe. But, the old woodcutter forgot that his mindset was responsible for creating his experiences in life. So no matter how hard he worked and how hard he tried to change his life, since he wasn’t treating  the source of his experiences, he was doomed to failure.

It’s not how hard you work, it’s how smart you work that makes the difference.

Many people tell us, “I don’t have the time to work with a coach and examine my mindset; I have to work hard to make a living and pay my bills”. I doubt that they’re cutting trees for a living, but they’re making the same mistake as the old woodcutter. They’re ignoring the very thing they need to fix if they want to be successful.

Their intentions are good, their action plan is not. People who don’t examine and deliberately manage their consciousness operate on default beliefs that will absolutely sabotage their efforts.

Whatever you do in life, you need the best tools you can get, and you need to keep them sharpened up and in pristine condition.
